When you sign into your account, you are authenticating your information proving who you are and being granted access. Unfortunately, with the technology that exists, this is not secure enough. Usernames are easy to discover such as your FOL email containing your username. Passwords are sometimes simple and many use them for multiple sites, meaning if someone discovers one password, they may be able to access multiple sites and all of your information.
Multifactor Authentication (sometimes also called Two-Step Verification), is a good way to secure your accounts. How this works, is when you sign into one account, it will ask you to enter a code, PIN, fingerprint, facial recognition, etc. on or from another device. The way the Fanshawe MFA works, is by connecting your phone so when you are using your laptop to access Fanshawe sites, it will send a pin to your phone to verify it is you. This is very beneficial, as Fanshawe sites have all of your work, financial information, grades, email, etc.
Please check out our MFA page for more information on signing up, troubleshooting and who to contact for more help.
